You’ve got only one day and you’d like to get the best out of it? Here is an awesome tip what to do when spending a day in or around Negril, Ocho Rios, Falmouth or Montego Bay!
Except for Negril the three other cities are accessible by cruise ships. Nevertheless Negril is a place to be curious of, as it is famous for its 7 mile beach, sunsets and live music parties.
Negril
Negril consists of two parts. The boulevard, which is the beach side and West End; the cliffs. More information about these two parts of Negril and where to stay can be found in this blog:
- Are you an early bird? Hike or jog just after sun rise along the beach; The light is beautiful, the turquoise ocean is calm and it’s serene in these early morning hours.
- Give the day a second start by snorkeling around the cliffs. Xtabi Hotel and Restaurant is a great spot, they even have masks to use and a shower to rinse off the salt water afterwards. Explore the cliffs with caves and wild life in the ocean. Go with the flow and see what brings you next.
- Fill your tummy with delicious, local food in the morning, as the best Jamaican food will sold out after 11 am. Find typical, small restaurants in an alley or around a corner.
- Explore more of West End.
Find the light house, shops and bars. Further on you’ll pass Brighton Beach and Little Bay with fishing boats. Make stops, buy a drink at a local bar and chat to people; ‘hang out’. - Jump off the cliffs at Rick’s Café! It’s also great to see others jump. Enjoy live music, drink a Red Stripe beer or one of the amazing cocktails they serve. The best time for Ricks is in the afternoon and around sun set.
With these tips the day is filled. It’s like slow travel, but you will experience a lot!
3 more options
1. Setting a goal for the day? Blue Hole Negril.
Blue Hole Negril is a fun place for a jump in the Blue Hole, watching jumps of others, chill at the pool with a drink from the bar or peak at the herb plantation. Start with Blue Hole and drive through countryside along West End back to Negril with Rick’s Café or Xtabi in the afternoon.
2. Waterfalls are your highest priority?
Swim through an underwater tunnel, jump into deeper pools and sit in the bubbling natural Jacuzzi of Mayfield Falls.
Same as Blue Hole: start with the drive through the hills to the falls and return via West End to Negril with stops on your way.
3. Roaring River Cave Park
Visit a village surrounded by old cane fields in the hills just outside Negril; Roaring River Cave Park. Dive in history in the cave, dip in the river, spent time with locals by having your real Jamaica experience.
Same as Blue Hole: start with Roaring River and return via West End to Negril with stops on your way.
Ocho Rios, Falmouth & Montego Bay … soon come 😉
